Pet And Baby Wild Animals - 1462 Words
ââ¬Å"Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals love them. But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more,â⬠(Teale). This quote shows that people who keep wild animals as pets do not realize that the native environment provides the wild animals with the necessities they cannot receive as a pet. Permits should not be given to people to own wild animals as pets because it is inhumane and dangerous. People who keep the animals as pets do not realize the danger they are putting on the animals or themselves. There have been 2,000 incidents involving captive exotic pets that have been reported and 75 reported deaths between the years of 1990 and 2013. Despite these incidents some states still subject their citizens to danger by allowing other citizens to legally own wild animal as pets (Owning Wild Animals: Stats). In each state, permits are classified into one of four different categories. The first two classifications are categories B and B*, dealing with the prohibition of exotic animals. States that are in the B category ban the ownership of large exotic animals such as felines that have not been domesticated as well as bears, wolves, primates, and some reptiles. Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming are the 21 states that fall under category B.
